| Also auctioned at the event were the original designs of the five winners of the Christmas Card Design Contest. Eligible contestants were the students enrolled in the Early Student Intervention Program. The five pieces of art brought nearly $1000 to support the youth activities of the West Orange Christian Service Center. These colorful drawings can now be seen on the printed Christmas Cards now available at the Christian Service Center's downtown and West Orange campuses. Packages of 10 (2 of each design) are $12.50 or you may purchase 2 packages for $20. All proceeds go directly to youth activities of the Center. |

Chaired by community volunteer and CSC Board Member Carol Ann Willard, the evening was a success because of Carol and her committee's efforts. They worked for months pursuing sponsors, selling tickets and finding volunteers to fill the positions needed to make the event run smoothly. Special thanks go to members of the West Orange Junior Service League and several of their spouses for helping before and after the event. Most important, we want to recognize those who purchased art that evening. Your selection of art directly benefits those less fortunate in the West Orange community. On behalf of those we serve, thank you! |

Well, this year back to school means something very different to me. just a few short weeks ago, my wife and I escorted our oldest child, Maribeth to her new home at Samford University. As you can imagine, there has been a flood of emotions ever since her high school graduation last spring, As we embarked on our trip home, I was struck by how God has blessed my life and surrounded me with so many people who have supported me and my family. However, it also occurred to me that there are thousands of people who have not been so blessed or do not have the support groups of which I have become accustomed. |
These are the people we serve. Those in our community who are at-risk. At risk of crisis, at risk of despair, at risk of disease, at risk of homelessness. These are to whom God has called us to serve and with your support, do.As we look toward the next few months, we anticipate a growing number of those coming to the Center for assistance. We have come to expect the annual influx of our friends up north who travel south for the warmer climate. This year however, because of Y2K concerns, we expect this number to significantly increase. Many of our supporters have a growing concern about the Y2K problem this year. Let me share with you that the Christian Service Center is ready! We are confident that our neighboring utilities, banks and public service are well prepared for such an event. However we are not so confident about the larger computer systems that will affect our clients. If there is a three-day "hiccup" in the welfare system, thousands in Central Florida will need immediate help.
In addition to your regular, faithful support, we need your help to ensure that every person within our community gets food, clothing and other items during this short interim time. (Please see the Y2K article in this issue on how you can help.)
On behalf of the Center, our staff, our Board of Directors and the thousands that we serve each month, thank you for your unselfish support.

Tax Break!
If you have appreciated stock and want to save on taxes or dispose of stock without paying a capital gains tax, please consider donating your" good fortune" to the Christian Service Center. After consulting with your tax advisor, you may find that this is an excellent alternative resulting in a substantial tax savings as opposed to making a gift of cash. The Center maintains brokerage relationships with several brokerage firms to dispose of gifts received in this manner. For more information on how to make a stock donation to the Center, please contact the Center's financial manager, Tom Farnsworth, at 425-2523. |
