One Life...

Each day we touch thousands of fives at the Christian Service Center. Whether through our Daily Bread programs, Family & Emergency Services programs, Fresh Start, Mothers Helping Mothers and tutoring programs, Alzheimer's Respite Care or ADNet (Adult Day Services Network), we touch many and offer hope and help for the future.

But, what is one life worth?

A few weeks ago, I received a letter from Thomas, a former client of our Fresh Start program. This program offers shelter for employable men along with counseling and guidance by professionals and volunteers. Thomas spent eight days at Fresh Start eight years ago. Today, he is a pastor in Gary, Indiana and called me to thank us for the impact of those eight short days.

Next month, Thomas will begin a similar program in Gary for men who simply need a chance!

Last week, one of our Board members mentioned the Christian Service Center to her assistant. With tears in the assistant's eyes, she told about a time, a few months ago when she and her children needed help leaving an abusive home and restarting their lives, Recovered from her situation, she has offered her help to the Center

Today we heard the excitement in the voice of a woman who came to pick up her husband from one of our Alzheimer's respite care centers. She had just returned from a movie resting her body and mind for a few short hours.

Even this needed respite is a reminder that she is not alone caring for her loved one ... others am there to help.

One life ... how can we know the impact of just one life? As we look toward the Christmas Season, we reflect on the birth of one child, born in another tumultuous time in world history One life can change the world... one life did!

Let me express the gratitude of the entire Board of Directors. our staff and those we sent at this time of year. Without your support, hundreds would be without the many things that each of us take for granted. Thank you for letting us serve because of the impact of one life - born 2,000 years ago.

From all of us at the Christian Service Center,
Have a Blessed Christmas and a Joyous New Year.
