| Whether you were among the millions who spent their Memorial Day Weekend watching "Pearl Harbor," or may not have seen it yet, you have certainly spent time talking about it. Pearl Harbor, after all, was a defining moment in our history and in the lives of millions of Americans and still is today.
As many people, I was fascinated in the historical Pearl Harbor and the state-of-the-art computer graphics portraying realistic sounds and visual effects. My wife was captured by the love story of men and women separated by war and reunited under the worst of circumstances. However, there is a moment during the film that captured us both. It was the words of Alec Baldwin playing Col. Jimmy Doolittle. "There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer."
Sometimes Hollywood catches onto what the general public has known all along. When this occurs, each of us say, "That’s right! You’ve finally got it!" |
Let me say that for 30 years, the Christian Service Center has gotten it! Volunteers have been the backbone of our first gathering in 1971 and they continue through our events

taking place for our 30th Anniversary. Volunteers are our lifeblood and our inspiration. |
Just this morning, a lifelong volunteer showed up with bags of underwear for our Fresh Start men – a gift for those in need – not asked for but prayed for nonetheless. Another volunteer cleaned out her closets at home and gave items to our thrift store. Some of these items were given away and others were sold to provide much needed resources to help us care for our neighbors in need. Still another couple provided encouragement for us by sending us a kind note along with contribution.
As we pause to look at the past, it is without question, volunteers have kept us running for 30 years. And for that we extend our deepest gratitude - Thank you!

Robert Stuart
P.S. Please take a moment and remember the work of the Christian Service Center during the summer months. While many of our supporters take a break, unfortunately poverty does not. Thanks! |

West Orange Art Show & Auction |
The West Orange Ministries of the Christian Service Center sponsored an art exhibition and auction on June 9th at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Avatar, formerly Heisman Galleries, conducted the exhibition and auction which raised over $3,000! |
|

Pictured above are Peg MacDonald (Director, West Orange Ministries), Pete Peterzell (Art Auction Co-Chair), Rev. Mike Yoakum (CSC President), and Rosi McFarland (Art Auction Co-Chair). A special thank you to our Board of Directors, and also Lynette Fields (not pictured) for her outstanding job in gathering volunteers to help that evening. |

In addition to the art auction, a children’s art contest was held. Ten of the children’s drawings were selected for greeting card covers. The all-occasion greeting cards were on sale at this event for only $5. We have plenty of packages left, so please call us to get yours today! |

Hundreds Gather for 30th Anniversary Prayer Breakfast |
Over 500 supporters gathered on Friday, June 1st to celebrate the Christian Service Center’s 30th anniversary in Downtown Orlando. Rev. Haggeo Gautier, the Center’s Director of Crisis Ministries, delivered a touching community prayer. Amanda Ober, WESH-TV Reporter and Anchor, was the morning’s Mistress of Ceremonies. Linda Wells, a former board member of the Center and wife of Florida Supreme Court Justice Charles T. Wells, spoke about the early days of the Center as well as an amusing briefing on the impact of last year’s US Presidential election on her family. |
