Help Us Beat the Heat

As summer temperatures soar in Central Florida, the Christian Service Center is once again operating a vital cooling center for our unhoused neighbors. When the heat index reaches 103 degrees or higher, we welcome people indoors to rest, rehydrate, and cool down with fans, cold water, and ice. On the hottest days, we serve close to 400 people seeking relief.

Extreme heat is more than uncomfortable. For those living on the streets, especially with chronic health conditions, it can be deadly. We are already seeing record-breaking temperatures and an increase in heat-related illnesses.

You can help by donating items for our Summer Survival Kits: flip flops, sunscreen, electrolyte packets, insulated water bottles, hats, and cooling towels.

Donations may be dropped off at our Parramore Campus Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Learn more at christianservicecenter.org.

This is a wonderful community initiative and an important reminder of how much practical support can mean during extreme weather. Providing cooling spaces, water, and Summer Survival Kits can make a real difference for people who are especially vulnerable during periods of extreme heat. It’s encouraging to see organizations working directly with the community to provide essential resources. Initiatives like this also show the value of making reliable support and resources easier for people to access when they need them most.

For students looking for reliable academic resources, Assignment Cart is another example of an online platform focused on making educational support more accessible.

It’s heartbreaking that record heat is already pushing the cooling center to serve nearly 400 people, but the Summer Survival Kits seem like such a practical way to help. By the way, I keep a free transmission fluid reference guide I like to share: https://transmissionfluid.net/
